My time at boarding school, the making of a business woman.
The thought of traveling all the way to perth to live for five years of my life, just for high school seemed utterly ridiculous to myself and all of my primary school friends. However my time at boarding school was the making of a business woman.
Yes the idea of living away from home when your only twelve or thirteen seems confronting and harsh the benefits for country children to receive an education, private or public in the city presents many more opportunuties and chances than these children could ever dream of.
A private all girls school, yes that phrase brings many stereotypes to ones mind, but ignore these and imagine living with one hundred, maybe more of you best friends and make do sisters, and every morning attending a school with a thousand faces all there to learn and a achieve.
My time at boarding school was the making of a business woman. The staff are willing to push and inspire every single student in their school. This commitment and dedication of the staff makes learning and achieving a more positive and accepted experience.
Exposed to subjects, activities and roles I had never imagined myself involved in I undertook a prefect role in my final year. The responsibilites and roles I had were important in my maturation and future career choices.
Boarding school even gave me the fantastic opportunity to travel to a third world country, Cambodia, with twelve of my now closest friends and teachers. The expereince was amazing and this trip played a significant role in creating my drive to help wider communities and people less fortunate than myself.
My strive to enter the business world however started early in year ten. Subjects such as computing and small business management showed me a new side to the worlds of technology and business, I learn t the roles of people in business and even attempted to run a small business as a class group.
Year eleven and twelve I studied accounting and finance as a TEE subject. A subject which if studied at a local high school at home would have to be done over distance education. Accounting was a rewarding and interesting experience.
All in all no matter how hard, confronting and scary moving away from home to the ‘big smoke’ was my future in business and in the work force has such a head start from the chances I would have if had not made to change. I am forever thankful for the chances and opportunities I received in Perth and at boarding school, this period made me who I am today.
Women in business require determination, commitment and much confidence these values are greatly enforced at many private schools in cities. MY future in business is hoped to be successful all because of the education and inspiration I received in high school.
