Is This for real, A Office Tower For Woman Entrepreneurs?

When we wrote about In Good Company and its New York work spaces for women entrepreneurs earlier this fall, we suggested it might be a concept worth repeating in other parts of the world. As if on cue, one of our spotters recently alerted us to a project in Dubai to build not just a work space but an entire office tower dedicated specifically to businesswomen.

Abu Dhabi-based Hydra Properties just recently completed excavation for Eve’s Tower, which it says will be the world’s first exclusive tower for women entrepreneurs. Located in downtown Dubai’s Business Bay, Eve’s Tower will be part of the iconic Hydra Towers Project comprising five uniquely shaped, high-rise towers. It will feature a sleek design and high-tech facilities, rising 20 floors and facing Burj Dubai, the tallest building in the world. While men will be allowed to work there, only women will be able to own office space, and women will enjoy special entrances, elevators and car parks as well, according to a report in Arabian Business. Sulaiman Al Fahim, Hydra’s CEO, explains: “We have conceptualized the building as a tribute to the nurturing spirit of womanhood, world over. I’m confident that the tower will lead to a new awakening and unleash the latent entrepreneurial talent of UAE women and contribute to the overall growth of the nation and region.” Eve’s Tower is slated to be completed by 2010.

Should I be sending my kids to boarding school?

As my eldest daughter completes her final year at boarding school and my younger children move into senior school, I thought it relevant to reflect on the experiences and benefits of my children and myself over the past five years. I live in a small rural town about two hours from the nearest city, Perth in WA.

While there is a near by local high school the standard of education and lacking morals my husband and I did not feel as though this would be at all beneficial in providing our children with every possible opportunity for their futures.

Should I be sending my kids to boarding school?
A question that will probably have crossed your mind once or twice if your living in a rural area with no close available secondary education centers. However if you are living in a rural area there are many pros and cons as to boarding school for your child/children.

So how do you make the decision? Generally the pros are going to outway the cons in this sort of situation, but if you can’t quite get your head around the idea of moving your kids out of home at only twelve or thirteen, then let me show you how.

The negatives.
– Your child may get homesick, and tell you they hate school, you, and generally everything.
– Your not going to know absolutely everything that goes on 24/7 as your children are living hours away.
– Generally the costs of boarding school are very high.

The positives.
– Your child learns independance and many life long skills.
– Your child will form friendships and relationships with peers and staff at a very close level.
– There are many opportunities and experiences that your child can be involved in, which are unimaginable at any other school
– You and your children will meet people from all over the state
– The education received at a private school is of an extremely high standard.

My time at boarding school, the making of a business woman.

The thought of traveling all the way to perth to live for five years of my life, just for high school seemed utterly ridiculous to myself and all of my primary school friends. However my time at boarding school was the making of a business woman.

Yes the idea of living away from home when your only twelve or thirteen seems confronting and harsh the benefits for country children to receive an education, private or public in the city presents many more opportunuties and chances than these children could ever dream of.

A private all girls school, yes that phrase brings many stereotypes to ones mind, but ignore these and imagine living with one hundred, maybe more of you best friends and make do sisters, and every morning attending a school with a thousand faces all there to learn and a achieve.

My time at boarding school was the making of a business woman. The staff are willing to push and inspire every single student in their school. This commitment and dedication of the staff makes learning and achieving a more positive and accepted experience.

Exposed to subjects, activities and roles I had never imagined myself involved in I undertook a prefect role in my final year. The responsibilites and roles I had were important in my maturation and future career choices.

Boarding school even gave me the fantastic opportunity to travel to a third world country, Cambodia, with twelve of my now closest friends and teachers. The expereince was amazing and this trip played a significant role in creating my drive to help wider communities and people less fortunate than myself.
